La Ruta del Café, our first and most iconic created in 1992 by Hilda Morales, owner of
AdvenTours, "to honor the memory of our Ancestors who, as immigrants from Spain,
established in the mountains of Las Marías and Añasco in the 1800´s and cultivated coffee.
More than a tour, this is the story of my family, of my Mom´s roots."
After several hurricanes and fires, buildings of many coffee plantations are gone; just a few
places have the original buidings. But museums are not the same as been able to walk
through the plantation, pick the coffee and learn the process.
The good news are that we visit real coffee plantations still in operation, you will learn
the stages involved in the cultivation process (cultivation, harvest of the fruit, processing,
pulping, washing, drying, hulling, and finally, roasting) until it gets to your table. You will
have the opportunity to buy high quality coffee not sold in the metropolitan area.
Be prepared to spend a minimum of 10 hours with us during these full-day activities to
coffee plantations in Jayuya and Adjuntas, but less time at Museo del Café in Ciales.
Available September through December.
What we include? Certified Tour Guide, transportation, snacks, water. Transportation is
available from San Juan, Isla Verde, Dorado, and Río Grande, Luquillo and Fajardo.
