Fabulous Birding Tours!!
Review of AdvenTours Puerto Rico
Reviewed May 25, 2024 via mobile
Hilda was amazing!! She catered our two tours to our son’s
interests and both adults and our 10 year old son loved it. We
took the Birding 101 class and the Luquillo Half day tour. We
saw ~20 different birds; several only found in Puerto Rico. My
husband and I were surprised how much we all enjoyed these
outings. Hilda is so knowledgeable and passionate. She really
gets you excited about birding and we were surprised how
much we learned in such a short amount of time. I would highly
recommend this company and will use again in future trips.

What to expect?
During a productive morning bird outing at El Yunque, we can have 14 of the 19 endemic bird
species, such as: Tanager, Emerald, Green Mango, Mango, Tody, Bullfinch, Elfin-woods
Warbler, Spindalis, Woodpecker, Oriole, Flycatcher, plus the Owl during our night tours.
The Lizard Cuckoo is coming back slowly and spreading through the Forest, tte Eupohonia
has taken longer than expected. The Adelaide´s Warbler has been added to the list during
the last two Christmas Bird Counts. Also, two near endemic species are found in the Forest,
Broad-winged Hawk and Loggerhead King Bird; the Pewee is extremely rare at the Forest).
What else? Native birds, and seasonal migratory bird species.
At the meeting point, we will give you the opportunity to select the route and the number of
stops based on your target list and the birds you already have seen before selected activity.
The Elfin-woods Warbler (rare), Tanager, and Green Mango are three endemics that you
should be looking with us at El Yunque, otherwise, we will need to go to Maricao.
- Remember, we will always be birding in open spaces close to the vehicles as we
don´t go on trails. Depending on your target birds, we will select the number of birding
spots at meeting point.
- If you prefer a private tour or plan to take picture with any type of camera (ultra zoom,
point-and-shoot, ultra zoom, SLR digital cameras with zoom lens), please select
a private bird outing in the booking system.
As of January 8, 2026, on any shared bird outing, we will not accept birders on site arriving with a
camera without binoculars. We want to avoid complaints from the other birders participating in a
shared birding trip. Our group of January 8, 2026 was delayed by a participant that was taking
pictures of a hummingbird delaying the rest of the group, the happyness of one birder is the
frustration of another birder.
A complete list of the birds of El Yunque is sent to you when you book with us.

Q & A - Cruise Ship Birders
Q: I arrive at the San Juan Port, what are my chances to see as many endemics as possible?
A: Your best options to go for endemics are El Yunque National Forest and Luquillo Bird Outing. All half-day birding trips with
pick-up at the port are considered private. For the 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM you should depart to the birding site not later than
7:30 AM, and 11:30 AM for the 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM.
If you start birding after 9:30 AM or 1:30 PM, you must contact us before booking online and we will suggest your options or customized

We had a fabulous birding experience! None of us were formal birders and our guide, Hilda, expertly led us to many sites and helped us see so many different bird species. Hilda was superb, she was knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor, and very professional. Using bird call recognition, she led us from spot to spot. The highlight for me was getting a very good look at 6 Puerto Rican parrots. This has been a lifelong ambition. I also note that pre-trip communication was very efficient. Any questions submitted to the site where answered very quickly. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone.
