In October, 1992, Excursiones Guariquén was born in the western coast of Puerto Rico. We chose the word "guariquén" because in Arawak language it means "look" or "come here and see".
Pioneers in this region, the initial objective of our company was the development of a new and responsible way of doing tourism towards the exploring and recognition of the natural history of our area and our Taíno roots. We started catering the needs of locals with a complete program of tours and expeditions departing from Mayagüez. Nevertheless,

ADVENTOURS operates tourism that fosters understanding, appreciation
and conservation of the culture and environments of our country. We
operate in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. Our efforts
are focused in the direct economic benefits that the community will have
and the contribution to environmental and cultural conservation awareness.
We aim to operate beyond best practice guidelines and will be monitoring
our operations continuously.
ADVENTOURS has been heavily involved in building professional
associations (tour guides and tour operators), a policy that has led to the
future implementation of guidelines for tour guides and tour operators
through the Best Practices Committee of the Puerto Rican Association of
Interpretation and Education, Inc. (APIE).
OUR STAFF consists of a group of professionals (Certified Tour Guides,
Certified Interpretive Guides, Certified Interpreters for the Hearing
Impaired, Wildlife Biologists, Naturalists, and community groups) that will
make your dream vacation a real and unforgettable experience. For more
information on our staff, please visit this link.

Since we coordinate several bird counts, our office is closed during Christmas: December 14 through January 14. To book a tour during those dates, you must reserve at least two months in advance.
Due to the number of people visiting El Yunque National Forest during the Holy Week/Weekend (Wednesday through Sunday, including Good Friday and Easter) and the month of July (we have four holidays, July 4, July 17, July 25, and July 27), we DO NOT OFFER tour to El Yunque other than the Night Hike and/or Taíno Ceremony. Access to the Forest is limited and we cannot guarantee the quality on those days.
All other reservations, specially Laguna Grande Kayak Adventure, should be made at least and pre-paid three weeks in advanced to guarantee the spaces. Payments during those dates are non-refundable.

our commitment with the region gained us islandwide reputation with the creation of "La Ruta del Café" and birding trips, which we have been offering since 1992.
One year later, AdvenTours was born in 1993 as a result of the requests we had for soft adventure tours from international travelers. We kept our operation small to guarantee the quality of our service, catering individuals and small groups.
We expanded our wings in 1997 offering our tour guide service to the hotels located from San Juan to Fajardo. In 2001, we established a partnership with the US Forest Service and by 2002 we opened a seasonal office in Luquillo in order to offer night hikes at El Yunque. A complete line of EcoYoga Tours was introduced.
We were recognized in 2003 by United Who´s Who.
As part of our corporate social responsibility, in 2007 we started training our partners in the east region. With a collaborative agreement between APIE and the University of Puerto Rico, local residents of the Northeastern Ecological Corridor were certified in heritage interpretive techniques, a special training for Outdoor Adventure Kayak Guides.
Seventeen years later, our initial objective is still alive, to offer a high quality service on all our personalized tours.

Partners - Guides and Leaders
Whenever possible, we provide employment opportunities to residents of the
regions covered by AdvenTours, henceforth, economic benefits go directly to
local businesses and people. Nothing better than a local insider to provide
the necessary insight of the region to visitors. Tour leaders are trained in
low-impact sustainable tourism travel best practices.
Partners - Accommodations and Meals
We sponsor small hotels, paradores, and guest houses locally owned. We
support local economy by eating in restaurants and mesones within the
region where our services are offered.
Partners - Transportation
We promote activities in the outdoors, such as hiking, birding, kayaking,
camping, and biking. Transportation is provided upon client´s request using
local transportation operators.
Group Size
Most of our private tours are offered to individuals or small groups, in this
way, we minimize both environmental and negative social impact. Tour
packages are kept to 6 - 12 passengers. We encourage tour wholesalers
and travel agents to keep the size of their groups to a minimum.
Sustainable tourism approach on larger groups - There are occasions when
larger groups require our services, such as cruise ship passengers
traveling as a group. We provide them with tour alternatives where the
carrying capacity has been established by municipal, state or federal
agencies in charge of the sites or museums to be visited.

Bird Counts
Through the Puerto Rican Association of Interpretation and Education, Inc.
(APIE) we have been coordinating three Christmas Bird Counts: Maricao,
Mayagüez, and Vieques Island. Although these are celebrated within the
time period of the Audubon CBC, these are not considered official CBC.
Nevertheless, our goal is to provide the experience to the general public, at
the same time that Tour Guides can improve their bird watching techniques.
Data is collected and share with coordinators, volunteers, and site officials.
Official Audubon CBC celebrated in Puerto Rico are: San Juan Estuary,
Caño Tiburones, Cabo Rojo, and Fajardo, which included Ceiba and El
Yunque National Forest.
