The Archipelago of Puerto Rico is part of the 34 Hotspots of biodiversity where almost 80% of our mainland
consists of mountains and hills. In 1976, Monroe mentioned three physiographic regions: mountainous
area, discontinuous coastal plains and the karst belt.
As with our other outdoor adventure programs, we have carefully selected the sites included on this section
of our website for the uniqueness of each site: Sorbetos, Ventana, Vientos, Evaporada, plus Tanamá River
are located in the Northern Karstic Region (belt). Tour depicted on this page: Cueva Vientos.

Puerto Rico´s limestone belt, and explore our mogotes (haystack-shaped hills), caves, sinkholes, and

Enjoy a full-day caving adventure. The expedition start when you meet
your Guide on site, followed by a 20 minute hike through haystack-shaped
hills. The entrance to the cave consists of a 200´ rappelling (40´ - 45´
wall, 80´- 85´ uneven terrain, and 70´ - 75´ free fall). Since this cave is
part of the Río Encantado Cave System, part of our journey includes
river crossing inside the cave.
