Partners - Guides and Leaders
Whenever possible, we provide employment opportunities to residents of the regions covered by AdvenTours,
henceforth, economic benefits go directly to local businesses and people. Nothing better than a local insider
to provide the necessary insight of the region to visitors. Tour leaders are trained in low-impact sustainable
tourism travel best practices.
Partners - Accommodations and Meals
We sponsor small hotels, paradores, and guest houses locally owned. We support local economy by eating in
restaurants and mesones within the region where our services are offered.
Partners - Transportation
We promote activities in the outdoors, such as hiking, birding, kayaking, camping, and biking. Transportation is
provided upon client´s request using local transportation operators.
Group Size
Most of our private tours are offered to individuals or small groups, in this way, we minimize both environmental
and negative social impact. Tour packages are kept to 6 - 12 passengers. We encourage tour wholesalers
and travel agents to keep the size of their groups to a minimum.
Sustainable tourism approach on larger groups - There are occasions when larger groups require our
services, such as cruise ship passengers traveling as a group. We provide them with tour alternatives where
the carrying capacity has been established by municipal, state or federal agencies in charge of the sites or
museums to be visited.

Historical Background
The Puerto Rico Tourism Company has divided the national territory of Puerto Rico in five (5) geographical and touristic zones:
North, West, Central, East, and South. Regional plans for a better sustainable economic development began in 2003 with a new
pilot brand name program for the West region: Porta del Sol, where we have our main office since 1992. A second program was
developed for the South in 2006: Porta Caribe, similar effort for the other regions will follow in the future.
Following this geographical division, we have divided our offerings within these regions involving local population in our tourism
projects. Our clients are encourage to sponsor local businesses, such as local family-owned small restaurants (mesones,
kiosks); hotels (paradores, guest houses, inns); tour operators, and others. We carefully select these partners, who meet our
own high environmental and social standards. In this way, we ensure that our partners pass on to our clients an insight and
understanding of our country.
We encourage our Guides and Leaders to obtain the Occupational Standards Certification. At this moment, the Puerto RIcan
Association of Interpretation and Education has issued the Outdoor Kayak Adventure Guide and Outdoor Nature Guide.
