Smell, feel, and taste...

Our meeting point will be at Mayagüez. A drive of approximately one hour will take
us to the small mountainous town of Las Marías where we will visit Hacienda
Palma Escrita, home of Café La Casona, a coffee plantation still in operation.
We will be greeted by the owners, who will be in charge of a walk through the
plantation while you learn more about the different varieties of coffee and how they
are grown in this side of the mainland of Puerto Rico. As you join this guided walk,
you will see all the stages involved in the cultivation process (cultivation, harvest of
the fruit, processing, pulping, washing, drying, hulling, and finally, roasting) until it
gets to your table. Ready to taste a cup of fresh coffee?
An optional stop for lunch is available at Parador La Hacienda Juanita or Erik´s
Bakery at the town of Maricao, lunch not included in price.
Off season, we can still visit the plantation although coffee will be growing for the
next year and you will not necessarily see all the stages of the cultivation process.

Since 1992 we have been offering private tours to the small mountainous towns of
the western-central region, best known as la ruta del café, the original coffee
plantation tour. This is one of the best ways to discover and explore Puerto Rican
culture.
We depart from San Juan during the months of September thru December,
depending on the coffee season. Reservations are a most since this program is
offered only on a private basis. We will visit Café Cibales. Includes lunch at a local
restaurant. Off season tours departing from San Juan include a visit to the Coffee
Museum in Ciales where you will have the opportunity to taste Café Don Pello.
Cruise ship passenger, it takes a drive of approximately two and a half hours from
San Juan to the coffee plantation; you should depart at 10:00 PM or later to go on this
trip.
Tour packages include overnight in a restored coffee plantation, such as La
Hacienda Juanita (Maricao) and Hacienda Gripiñas (Jayuya).

Thanks so much...arrived home at midnite Sunday the 3rd....Florida was 41 degrees!! Was a delay at the airport...thus...a tiring day at school now. Sorry about the mix-up on our tour...the car sick people..my family loved you.....I suppose I planned too much for one day. Thanks...it was their favorite side trip.

A drive of approximately one hour and a half will take us to the mountainous town of
Jayuya where we will visit a coffee plantation still in operation. We will be greeted by
the owners and their employees, who will be in charge of a walk through the
plantation while you learn more about the different varieties of coffee.
Join us in this guided walk and learn the stages involved in the cultivation process
(cultivation, harvest of the fruit, processing, pulping, washing, drying, hulling, and
finally, roasting) until it gets to your table. We will stop for lunch at Parador Hacienda
Gripiñas (included in price). Ready to taste a cup of fresh coffee?
Excellent tour for cruise ship passengers, extended families and groups. Off
season, we can still visit the plantation although coffee will be growing for the next
year and you will not necessarily see all the stages of the cultivation process. During
the month of November we celebrate the Jayuya Indigeneous National Festival.
Combine both activities and save!!! Drop us an email for details.
