As part of our sustainable tourism approach, we have teamed up for the past eight years with
partners from the South to offer tours departing from Ponce. Our partners are residents of the
region unless a specialized Guide is needed. Cultural, nature and adventure tours will be
available within the region, but also, tours to Porta del Sol, El Yunque National Forest, and Old
San Juan.
During the past 17 years we have been offering our signature tour to coffee plantations with
our La ruta del Café, which we created in 1992. This route will take you to the countryside and
heartland of our beautiful island. We will be visiting a real coffee plantation, one of many
haciendas located in Porta Caribe.
For nature lovers, lets do some birding at Guánica Forest, hiking at Guilarte or Toro
Negro Forests. Adventures? Cave exploration as close as the Southwestern area. Culinary
and cultural tours? This is why we are doing tours in Porta Caribe!!!

In the year of 1493 Christopher Columbus landed in the west coast of the Island of
Borikén. The territory of Borikén was inhabited by the Taínos.
It was also through the west coast that Ponce de León arrived fifteen years later to
start the colonization of the new territory for Spain. But less than three years after
his arrival, the Taíno started their rebellion against the Spaniards.
Almost four hundred years later, the territory was given to the United States after
the Hispanoamerican War of 1898.
It has been through the west that Puerto Rico´s most important events in five
centuries have taken place. Join us and learn more our culture and enjoy all the
natural wonders in this region.
