| Located in the Southwest corner of Puerto Rico, the salt flats not only are one of the most important points for migrating shorebirds in the Eastern Caribbean, but it is also important in Cabo Rojo´s economic development through history, and a prime fish habitat. In 1999 the salt flats became part of the US Fish and Wildlife Service system. Legends and tales of pirates, a combat between two towns to have the control of the salt production, an old lighthouse built by the Spaniards, unique fauna and flora, are only part of what you will learn during this imaginary journey through time and space. |
