Effort levels
XTREME (groups only)

  • Pico El Toro
  • Ancient Trail
There are several ways to explore El
Yunque National Forest.  It will depend on
the effort level of selected trail and purpose
of your hike that you should consider hiking
on your own or with a local Guide.

Our personalized hikes in the rain forest are
divided in five categories or effort levels.  Is
through the North entrance that you will find
most of the attractions of the Forest,
henceforth, the most visited and crowded
ones.   You will find trails with a low-impact
to an strenuous effort.

Although the South and West entrances to
Road 191 are closed, you can explore both
sides of the Forest on your own, but, if you
wish to fully understand and appreciate this
unique Forest, you can relay on the
expertise of one of our leaders.  Depending
on selected program, the leader will be
assisted by two or three guides, local
residents or interns.  These programs are
specially designed for small groups craving
for less crowded areas; you should be in top
physical condition since extra effort is
required on these
full-day hikes.
El Yunque National
Forest is considered by
Martin Gray as one of
the two sacred sites in
Puerto Rico.
What to see?

Petroglyph area, scenic views, secluded waterfalls, crystal water rivers, and more.

La Mina Waterfall on less visited hours (El Yunque Hybrid for Groups)
One of the best option for groups looking for something different with
a moderate to challenging effort hike on a time frame, we suggest
El
Yunque Hybrid for Groups
.  This program last approximately seven
hours (if departing from San Juan) and includes a hike to La Mina
Trail (left picture) instead of Caimitillo Trail.
If you want to explore the Forest on your own, please do it on a
responsible way to avoid accidents and keep walking/hiking on
provided trail systems.  Otherwise, look for a Certified Tour Guide.
