"As the path of the birds in the air or of fishes in the water is invisible, even so is the path of the possessors of wisdom."
Celebrating 18 years
of sharing our
Natural Heritage!
Join me in this unique experience through
different birding sites in Puerto Rico,
including several BirdLife IBA´s.  We will
focus this birding program on endemic
species and sub-species.  On extended
programs, we also look for Caribbean
specialties.

"As the path of the birds in the air or of fishes in the water is invisible, even so is the path of the possessors of wisdom."
  • Day 1 - Arrival, meet & greet.  Depending on arrival
time, we will stop at Piñones Forest for our Vireo.
Hotel Yunque Mar (3 nights), seat comfortable and
look for the Antillean Mango from the balcony.
Night owling at El Yunque National Forest (PR
    Screech Owl).

  • Day 2 - Full day birding trip at El Yunque National
Forest for the following endemics:  Tody, Tanager,
Lizard Cuckoo, Bullfinch, Oriole, Woodpecker, Elfin
Woods, Spindalis, and Emerald.  Optional sunset
kayak tour at Laguna Grande in Fajardo (glow in
    the dark micro-organisms).

  • Day 3 - Hummingbird Day!  Our goal of the
morning will be the little Antillean Crested
Hummingbird during our stop at a coastal dry
forest with a great chance to see our Adelaide´s
    Warbler, Green-throated Carib, and Caribbean
Elaenia, plus seabirds.  In the afternoon, we will
drive to the coast of Río Grande looking for the PR
Fly Catcher and Caribbean Coot.  Depending on
the season, we will look for the Antillean Nighjar in
the evening.  Also, depending on the weather, we
can go to Vieques for these birds.

  • Day 4 - Before check-out, we will do a short stop for
shorebirds (seasonal) close to our hotel.  Relax as
we drive to the mountains of Maricao.  Depending
on the season, we will add other birding sites to
our route to the northwestern region and look for
the Greater Flamingo or Tropicbirds.  Targets of the
afternoon, Elfin Woods Warbler (in case we
missed it at El Yunque) PR Green Mango, Antillean
Euphonia, and Lesser Antillean Pewee.   Night
owling at La Hacienda Juanita (PR Screech Owl).

  • Day 5 - In the morning we will look for endemics,
and the Bridled Quail-Dove, at the Maricao Forest
and the Fish Hatchery.  After check-out we will
have lunch at the town and then drive to Mayagüez
for our first try of the Masked and the West Indian
Whistling Ducks.  Depending on the season, we
will also stop for migratory terns and gulls.  At
sunset, we will look for the PR Nightjar at the
Guánica Forest.  Parador Villa Parguera for the
    next two nights.

  • Day 6 - Early morning trip to the salt flats looking
    for shorebirds, Yellow-shouldered Blackbird,
Venezuelan Troupial, Antillean race of the Clapper
Rail, and Caribbean Elaenia.  Picnic lunch
(including fresh pineapples and papaya) on our
way to Laguna Cartagena.  Before dinner, we will
try again the Yellow-shouldered Blackbird and
ducks at the water treatment plant.  Night on your
own (bio-bay boat trips available in the area).  We
will go in search of the PR Nightjar if we have not
    been lucky the night before.

  • Day 7 - After check-out we will go again to the
Guánica Forest for the Adelaide´s Warbler.  We will
continue our journey to the South looking for the
Plain Pigeon.  Overnight on selected hotel in Isla
    Verde or San Juan.

  • Day 8 - Today we return to San Juan, but first we
will look for the Plain Pigeon in Caguas..  We return
to the hotel for check-out and transfers to the airport
for those leaving in the afternoon.
  • We hope to find at least 18 of  19 endemic
    species, plus Caribbean specialties and
    migratory species.
  • We will have the opportunity to see different
habitats around the Island, from a rain to  dry
and mangrove forest.  A minimum of 14 birding
spots, including additional stops whenever I
hear a bird on the road.
  • Depends on the season, we will be out at night
two or three times looking for the PR Screech
Owl, PR Nightjar, and the Antillean Nightjar.
  • Experience culture and local cuisine with a
    sustainable tourism approach while exploring
the Island with a personalized trip with a local
    resident Certified Interpretive Driver/Guide.
